A Nation in Turmoil

The Unprecedented Rise and Fall of a Corrupt Leader

Explore the tumultuous journey of a businessman-turned-president whose actions have left an indelible mark on American history.  He is acting like a weird madman as he seeks the presidency for the third time.  He said he would be a dictator (“Dictator Don”) on his first day in office. I do not speak lightly on this assertion.  The plan for a dictatorship is described in the Heritage Foundation document, Project 2025, a dangerous plan to uproot and destroy democracy and hand it over to elites (most whom are dumb rich folk).

ELECTION CONTROVERY

In the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, Trump cheated on the first and tried to steal the second.  In 2024 they will challenge thousands of votes at the polling stations.

IMPEACHMENT TRIALS

Trump is the only president to be impeached twice for crimes. In 2019 he was impeached for bribing the president of Ukraine. He was impeached again in 2021 for inciting political violence with the attack on the U.S. Capitol to try and overthrow the election.

LEGAL BATTLES

Trump has a long history of legal battles with the government, individuals, corporations, and businesses.

ONGOING INVESTIGATIONS

Trump is under investigation for sexual assault and rape, business fraud, hush money payments to prevent a porn star from telling a tale before the 2016 election.  He is also facing three indictments, two from the U.S. Justice Department for trying to overthrow an election and stealing classified documents.  Fulton County, Georgia, prosecutors have indicted Trump for racketeering along with 18 others.

A Tale of Corruption and Consequence

In the twenty-first century, the United States witnessed the rise of a corrupt businessman to the highest office in the land. Elected president amidst allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 election, his tenure was marred by scandal and controversy. The Justice Department launched an investigation, uncovering a web of deceit and corruption. Despite being impeached twice—first for attempting to bribe the president of Ukraine and later for inciting a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol—he remained a free man. Charged with 34 felonies, found liable for financial fraud and sexual assault, and facing three additional indictments, he has yet to be held accountable for his actions. This narrative delves into the events that have shaped a nation and the ongoing struggle for justice.

The books shown below are just a few that have uncovered the corruption and consequences of Trump’s behavior.  Click to read a free copy of the first part of The Trump Files.

Kamala Harris

So hear me when I I say I know the Donald Trump type.

Examining Trump’s Authoritarian Strategies in 2020: His Attempted Coup

I wrote this post in on December 10, 2020 from my home office. From here, I can see wetlands formed from Mud Creek. Mud Creek is a small stream about 100 meters from my backyard. It runs for a few miles until it merges with Noses Creek. Eventually, it meets with Sweetwater Creek, a tributary of the Chattahoochee River, Georgia’s largest river.

I have been writing from this office since 1993. I will share more in the future as The Mud Creek Chronicles.

Visiting the past can help us navigate the future. This is especially true now. We have a wannabe dictator and a known authoritarian. They prefer meeting with leaders of authoritarian nations rather than democratic leaders.

Donald Trump and his sycophants were trying to steal the 2020 election. I wrote this nearly a month before he incited thousands to attack the United States Capitol Building. It was obvious. Or it should have been obvious. Autocrat Trump was showing the world that he was determined to stay in office, no matter what.
What did we learn from this attempted coup?

Letter from a Dark Future

Letter from a Dark Future

Note: I received this letter on the day of the election. The letter is from Skyler Fussro, a young woman living in the 2055. I have received letters from Skyler for several decades. You can read some of them here. Usually, she is calling me out for our dismal approach to education and climate change. She is also in touch with Greta Thunberg, the young Swedish climate change and humanitarian activist.

But this letter reflects a deep concern she has with Donald Trump’s election by primarily white men and women. She says that the America she is living in is more diverse than it was in 2024. By the way, she lives with her family in a high-rise apartment in central Atlanta. It is a few blocks from Five Points and the campus of Georgia State University. I was a professor there from 1969 to 2003.

Another Existential Threat: Donald J. Trump

Another Existential Threat: Donald J. Trump

Donald Trump is now the president-elect and brings upon us another existential threat. In my book, The Trump Files, I concluded that Trump poses a significant risk. This is a conclusion I made if he were ever elected again as President. His election created an existential threat.
