The Second Blue Wave

There was a blue wave in the 2020 Presidential election. However, it didn’t happen as many people expected. For various reasons, Donald Trump created the second blue wave because of his failed response to the COVID-19 pandemic. His failure to act decisively, and use the science that was available to him and his administration created a fracture amongst the American people. But all of this cost him the election. He claimed years ago that the election was going to rigged. He told his crowds around the country that vote-by-mail would be fraudulent and he thereby encouraged his followers not to use the mail to vote. Citizens of the U.S. knew they could vote by mail. And they did and helped elect Joe and Kamala.

RBG’s Environmental Legacy

Ruth Bader Ginsburg established an environmental legacy second to none on the Supreme Court. I’ve explored her legacy by examining a few of her important environmental cases. It meant reading some of her opinions written on key environmental cases over the past 20 years.

A Climate Change Fact Sheet for the Pence/Trump Doublet

This post is a climate science fact sheet especially designed for Pence and Trump. In both recent debates, each showed they either don’t or refuse to understand some very simple science of climate change. If they did, they could have helped the American people understand how global warming is affecting fires, rain, flooding, storms and drought. Many of us work with middle and high school students who know more about climate change, global warming, and air pollution than either Pence or Trump.

Trump, The Super Spreader, Released from Walter Reed

For 8 months Donald J. Trump, aka “the super spreader, lied about COVID 19. He ignored and dismissed the health advice of the country’s top infectious disease experts. He admitted playing down the serious nature of the disease. Meanwhile more than 1 million Americans are infected. Over 210,000 people have died. Now he has the disease. Or so we’ve been told. Trump’s behavior has been stupid, foolish, dumb, ludicrous, laughable, half-baked, inane, pointless, irrelevant. You name it.Trump has used the episode this week end as a campaign strategy to get reelected. I think he used the virus as a tool in his reelection campaign. Do you remember some months ago that he walked to a church across from the White House to hold up (upside down) a Bible. Finally, Did he go to the hospital to hold us up?

How RBG Made the Earth A Better Place

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG) had a profound affect on the world. Not only was she a Supreme Court Justice, but had attained the status of a “rock star.” Like John Lewis, Justice Ginsburg influenced our thinking about justice for all people. Each of these giants of American society believed in the rights for all people, regardless of race or gender. As a result, they did something about it. In this post, I want to explore how RBG affected environmental law. n particular, she was involved in hundreds of cases, and wrote the opinion—majority and dissenting—in many of them. Her case load is impressive. What might surprise you is that she had a lot to say about the environment. She was involved in some landmark cases affecting the Clean Air and the Clean Water Acts.

Raking Leaves Won’t Put Out California’s Fires

Climate change is the reality for the cause of the mega-fires in the West. Yet, the President thinks the cause is the lack of raking leaves. Science denialism has led to a colossal debacle in this country.

What’s Causing the Wildfires in the West?

I’ve wondered what is the main cause of wildfires raging in the West. Are the fires linked to climate change? What role do humans play in starting fires? Are there more fires this year than in the past? Why? Finally, the toll on human and other animal and plant life is immense.

Why Mail In Voting Isn’t As Bad As You Think

Many Americans are concerned about the use of mail in or absentee ballots. Some are concerned that the USPS won’t be able to deliver. Other’s, including Donald J. Trump, believe that millions and millions of fraudulent votes will be cast. Fraud is rare in voting; rarer with mail in voting. Facts and data support ideas in this post on voting.

Most U.S. Citizens Can Vote By Mail

Most of us can vote by mail. Nearly 75% of us can. We need to fight the voter suppressionists. As John Lewis reminds us: I have said this before, and I will say it again. The vote is precious. It is almost sacred. It is the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democracy.
