I don’t know if Isakson will be involved in Trump’s senate trial in 2020. However, we know Purdue will be there.
There is little chance that Purdue will vote against Trump.
But, that doesn’t get him off my hook. I think he needs to be challenged. He needs to hear from people like me and you. More than 50% of us believe Trump should be impeached and then removed from office by the senate. Seventy-six percent of women think he should get the boot.
This post is the beginning of a series of posts based on letters exchanged between Senator Purdue and myself.
I wrote to them last week and received a reply from Purdue. I replied to Senator Purdue. I’m waiting for his reply.
Here is the exchange so far.
My Initial Letter to Senators Isakson & Purdue
I know you are close to Donald Trump. But now is the time to consider the truth about the President.
You are in a position of power to save our democracy from the Trump administration.
I’m asking you not to continue to support this man and take great courage by encouraging other Republican Senators to vote against him in the Senate trial.
Thank you.

Senator Purdue’s Reply
Dear Mr. Hassard:
Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding impeachment proceedings. I always appreciate the opportunity to hear from my fellow Georgians.
On September 24, 2019, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House of Representatives would begin a formal impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump. According to Article II of the U.S. Constitution, a President may be impeached if a majority of the House votes to impeach him and two-thirds of the Senate votes to convict him and remove him from office.
So far, we have seen nothing that rises to the level of impeachment. (Emphasis mine)
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has made it clear that the Senate will take up the impeachment inquiry if it passes the House, but that hasn’t happened yet.
That’s why I joined 49 of my Senate colleagues condemning House Democrats’ lack of due process throughout their handling of the impeachment inquiry.(Emphasis mine)
Impeachment has always been a last resort in our Constitutional history, and Democrats are using this inquiry to distract from our work and obstruct the President’s agenda.
We need to be focused on pursuing legitimate solutions to the problems facing our country like funding the government, solving our debt crisis, fixing our immigration system, and coming together on common sense school safety legislation. None of this can get done while we’re focused on investigations. While this situation progresses in the House, I will be working closely with my Senate colleagues to pass meaningful legislation that will solve the problems that brought me to Washington in the first place.
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me with your concerns. Your thoughts are important to me, and I will keep them in mind moving forward.
My Reply to Senator Purdue
Dear Senator Purdue,
You and your Republican colleagues are either ill-informed, or so partisan, you are unable to face the evidence that Trump used his office to ask the President of Ukraine to dig up dirt on the Bidens, and “investigate” a Republican conspiracy theory that it was Ukraine, not Russia that hacked DNC server in the run-up to the 2016 election.
How can you be part of this abuse of power and fictional history of the treachery of the 2916 election?
Your denial of the abuse of power by Trump shows a lack of leadership on you and your Party.
In so doing you put the country at risk for another cyber attack on our democracy.
Sincerely,
Jack Hassard

join Me by Writing to Your Senators
I value your opinion. I’m sure your senators would like to hear from you.
Don’t let them off the hook.
Won’t you join me?
Write a letter to your Republican Senator. Let’s keep them honest by asking them about Trump’s lies and Quid Pro Quo with Ukraine’s President.
Thank you.
Please post your letters on my site in the comments section of this post.
