The Russians used to active social media measures to influence the 2016 presidential campaign to favor of a positive outcome for the Trump Campaign and to disparage the campaign of Hilary Clinton.
Two Russian organizations conspired to affect the election outcome through social media operations—active measures. The Internet Research Agency (IRA), a Russian organization, funded by a Russian billionaire Yevgeniy Viktorovich Prigozhin was established to sow discord in the US Political System. IRA employees posted derogatory information that supported Trump and disparaged Clinton. The IRA bought political advertisements on social media in the names of US persons or entities. No coordination with Trump Camp. was found. HOWEVER, what is the US Attorney General doing to protect the US Political system against the same kind of interference in the next and future elections. What are you doing Mr. Barr?
Mr. Barr should understand that the IRA organization swept into Twitter and Facebook, and hoodwinked thousands of American voters who read their Tweets, and Facebook accounts which were detrimental to the Clinton Campagin retweeted or reposted them on Facebook. The facts here are impressive. According to the Mueller report, IRA controlled Facebook accounts made 80,000 posts between Jan 2015 and August 2017. Mueller estimates that 126 million persons were reached through these accounts.
Over on the IRA-controlled Twitter accounts, Mueller estimated that about 1.4 million people were in contact these IRA accounts.
