Today, Maine’s Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows, wrote:
I am mindful that no secretary of state has ever deprived a presidential candidate of ballot access based on Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. I am also mindful, however, that no presidential candidate has ever before engaged in insurrection.”
Maine joins Colorado in using Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment to disqualify Donald Trump from the ballot in their states.
Michigan dismissed a case requesting Trump’s disqualification on the same grounds. It’s 2-1 in favor of the disqualification clause.
Donald Trump is the first president to cause and participate in an insurrection, And give comfort to the insurrection from his White House command center.
There are 47 states that possibly could be in a position to remove Trump from the ballot. If Trump was 34, he’d be disqualified. If he participated in an insurrection he should be removed the ballots, as well. If you read section three of the 14th, it’s clear that the framers of this reconstruction amendment did not want any one who participated in an insurrection to hold office anywhere in the United States.
