In an earlier post I wrote about California being the action state in funding stem cell research. Today the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine awarded more than $45 million in research grants. Seventy-two grants totaling $45 million were given out to 20 academic institutions throughout the state. 231 applications were received. The grants ranged in amounts from $342,962 to $807,749 (The Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Stanford received eight separate grants. You can go to the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine and click on a link and read abstracts and reviews of each of the grant awards.
California is now the leading research base for stem cells, superceding the amount of research funded by the Federal government.
