In the Trump administration’s 2026 fiscal budget proposal, they have launched a full-court press. They are focusing on every cabinet-level department and agency. Nonetheless, they have not targeted the Department of Defense. Science research and development have been drastically reduced. The National Science Foundation (NSF) is on the chopping block. The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) is also being targeted.

Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) faces cuts. Similarly, the Department of Commerce, where you find the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, is affected. The Department of Energy will face severe budget cuts. The Agriculture Department’s budget will also be reduced. Additionally, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will see its budget reduced significantly.

The White House Office of Management and Budget released its proposed budget last week. It’s riddled with billions of dollars in cuts. The budget cuts are unprecedented and will be disastrous for the future of science in America. Sudip Parikh is the chief executive of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He stated that the consequences for the nation’s future would be catastrophic. Some people believe these cuts send a discouraging message. The cuts are disastrous not only for science but for the entire federal government. Let’s examine several of the departments and agencies that fund science-related research, development, and monitoring. Remember that Republicans have been vocal about liberal and progressive funding for Americans for nearly a century. This began with the initiation of the New Deal by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. We are facing the Worst Deal imaginable. Read on.

In the next post, I will discuss why these budget cuts have been made. We’ll discuss the underlying, disgusting, and dangerous reasons for these enormous budget cuts.
