There are at least two strikes this week. The first will be the strike by 50,000 GM workers because of a contract failure. It could start Monday, at midnight.
The second strike will on Friday, Sep 20. It will be much bigger than 50,000 participants. The dispute is between citizens of the earth and governments of every nation.
Although there are adults involved in the Friday strike, it will be led by millions of youth from around the world. Four youth will testify at a joint House meeting in Washington on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.
But on Friday, the climate strike will take place involving millions of people from around the earth. As most of you know, climate strikes originated in high schools, especially in Sweden and in Seattle, WA. Led by Greta Thunberg, now a 16 year-old global activist, she singlehandedly created a climate strike concept.
Bill McKibben has an article on Truthout today about this. He says that this strike will be the biggest and most massive climate strike ever. He discusses this Friday’s climate strike, and says this:
But the climate strikes, of course, had their genesis in high schools — or, more exactly, outside of high schools, which is where 16-year-old activist Greta Thunberg found herself last autumn. Why, she asked the Swedish authorities, should I spend all day in school preparing myself for the future when you aren’t preparing the country or the world for the future? That is a good question — so good that it quickly spread around the planet.
There will be rallies all around the world, and you can find a full list at globalclimatestrike.net. Click on the map to be brought to a page that includes this map at globalclimatestrike.com. As you can see from the map, the student led strike is global. This is one of the most powerful events in the history of the climate crisis.
